UUDAN is encouraging members to attend the Delaware Education Funding Summit sponsored by the Delaware Education Equity Coalition. The objective is to spur Gov. John Carney and the General Assembly to take up a long-overdue overhaul of our state’s outdated and ineffective school funding system.
High poverty schools are disproportionately staffed with novice teachers, even though students there are most in need of expert educators. A lack of property tax reassessments has made it impossible to equalize funding between districts.
Delaware spends more than a billion dollars a year on education, and it is nearly impossible to evaluate the impact of funding under the current formula. To make the most of these investments and know whether students’ needs are adequately being met, we need to understand how money is being spent.
Attend the Education Summit and learn more about this important issue.
