This week has certainly been a dynamic week with the Kavanaugh hearings in DC and the political campaigns happening both in Delaware and across the country.  This weeks events have shown us that each time we cast our vote, regardless of the office, it has a great impact on both our state and our nation. Also, we have learned the impact that the people we are unable to vote for have on our lives as well.

My friend, next week will prove to be yet another dynamic week. We have the continuation of the Kavanaugh nomination hearings, and there are many events planned around it. Any appointment to the Supreme Court must be carefully considered, however, Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination brought with it additional hurdles; sexual assault allegations.  As a result, many survivors of sexual assault, as well as their allies, have stepped forward to demand due process in the proceedings. Thankfully, it was decided on Friday that an FBI investigation will happen, so we must keep up the pressure.

Delaware will continue to fight alongside those standing against the appointment of Kavanaugh, not just because of these allegations, but because he has a history of rulings which cast doubt on his likelihood to protect our civil and Constitutional rights. As a result, we have a series of events happening both in Delaware and in DC to support the efforts to stop Kavanaugh’s appointment

Weeks Events to Stand Up to Kavanaugh:

Monday, October 1st Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Newark is hosting a vigil for survivors of sexual assault from 7-9pm. Please open the link to see the Facebook event.

Tuesday, October 2nd Our team and the Delaware Alliance for Community Advancement (DelACA) will join the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD), Women’s March, and others to lobby Senators from across the nation to vote no on Kavanaugh. Also, we will thank Senator Coons for working with Senator Flake to push for the FBI investigation. There will be a van leaving from Newark and a van leaving from Dover, the first 10 people to sign up for each location will be able to ride down, others will need to find carpools. Please check Facebook for updates. Please sign up using the attached link.

The time and location are being finalized so please check the Kerri Evelyn Harris Facebook page for updates.

Thursday, October 4th  Our team and the Delaware Alliance for Community Advancement (DelACA) will join the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD), , Women’s March, and other organizations to participate in a day of actions at various locations in DC. There will be a van leaving from Newark and a van leaving from Dover, the first 10 people to sign up for each location will be able to ride down, others will need to find carpools. Please check Facebook for updates. Please sign up using the attached link.

If you are able to participate in any of these events please do. If not, please use your social media outlets to draw attention to the events so that it is clear where Delaware stands.

We will win together.

In Solidarity,

Hello Kerri Evelyn Harris and friends,
It is good to see that others are taking action on the Kavanaugh issue! I am a former UU from Houston with an idea to try to help replace Judge Kavanaugh with a better candidate. First, we need to help find a better one, and although I am not yet sure how to do this, I am sending out a nationwide request for volunteers to help find another name and get it put forth in the media. I am seeking your and your community’s assistance to search for a way to put forth a better name so there is a clear alternative. Here is a proposed email that, if you are comfortable with doing so, you might consider sending to your base of activists or anyone else who might be able/willing to help. I think that having an alternative name out there may help to sway some of the Senators to think outside the Kavanaugh box. Please feel free to send this out if you can. You may feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
    Thanks!

Following is some possible wording you might use to put this out to your friends or database:

We know that Judge Kavanaugh is NOT the right man for the job of Supreme Court Justice at this time. Although we are HURTING AND ANGRY…ACTION is what will give us both respect and results. An action we can take is to IDENTIFY AND START TO LOBBY FOR A DIFFERENT CANDIDATE for SUPREME COURT JUSTICE. other than Judge Kavanaugh, and start to bring that name forward as an alternate. Those who would be interested in helping with this effort are asked to text Erin Whitney at (281) 728-7181 with “I’m in” or email Ewhitney.gc@gmail.com and await further instructions. If you know someone who is connected enough to be able to help determine other possible candidates, please ask for their help and text Erin about it as well. Are you in???? If you want to help us change the course of history, THIS WEEK IS THE TIME! Text Erin now. We need every single one of you….

Text Erin 281-728-7181 or email Ewhitney.gc@gmail.com with “I’m in”
